Internal Family Systems

A gentle healing inquiry into the 'parts' of us that make us human.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) leads people on an inner journey that explores how life experiences influence the way that we think, feel & relate to life.

The IFS approach explores parts of ourselves that take on a variety of roles, beliefs, viewpoints and strategies that are common to all human beings. These parts that cause turmoil, stress and can be self-destructive have good intentions. Their roles are to protect, distract, compensate and even care for the pain, sadness, rage and anger that exists inside.

IFS is based on the foundation that every human being has energy that is intrinsically calm, caring, curious and compassionate. Therefore, we all have innate inner resources to heal and lead our lives with peace, confidence and clarity.

IFS resonates with people who are called to a more body-based approach to healing. They are often curious and open to exploring their feelings, thoughts and physical sensations. This naturally leads to healing and a deeper self-awareness. IFS invites connection to the inner body rather than a focus on cognitive thinking, processing or problem solving. It is an invitation to connect to the deeper wisdom that exists in human beings.

An IFS session can feel like an interactive meditation that deepens connection and understanding of what it means to be human and the ways that it is often hard. IFS is a gentle inquiry and an honoring of the complex nature of being human.
